We have so much fun at our job, it should be illegal | Outtakes & behind the scenes from shoots

If your viewing this on Facebook head on over to our blog at https://www.ztsblog.com

We are in the process of making a giant “BEST OF 2010” album to show clients when we meet for wedding consultations. This sucker is going to be HUGE and hopefully encompass a bit of every shoot we’ve done this year. Going through folders and files we started to come across some pretty good outtake photos from various sessions we shot this year and last from weddings and engagement sessions to seniors and beyond.

If you are a photographer you will probably enjoy some of these…and even not some are semi amusing. We probably have a bit too much fun and enjoy our job more than most but wouldn’t trade smiles and laughter for the world. We love what we do and looking through these not only make me smile but make me reflect on how much we love our jobs as photographers and our clients!

Tanner moving props around at a recent shoot

Our first same day iPad slide-show at a wedding. Tanner showing the groom how to browse through the photos.

Behind the scenes of a senior shoot in the alleyways of East Village this September

Engagement shoot shot from a recent shoot at Catch Light Studio located in the Fitch Building downtown Des Moines

Sometimes I capture decent expressions. Probably just payback for that one photo down a bit he captured at me from a wedding.

Just waiting for our clients to show up to an e-shoot last spring

Scott & Amber’s e-shoot last spring in Des Moines and a wedding for Taylor & Katelyn on the left last fall in Cedar Rapids. Multitasking at its finest. Ok, wish it was a mixed drink sadly just a coke. 🙂

Testing out light. Often we try out locations before shoots to make sure we know how to setup. We used this awesome grungy car-wash for some senior photo shoots in Garner this summer. About 3 weeks later…they painted it.

Reflection at a sweet bus we found on the side of the road just out of Granger, IA

Team Tremper wedding that took place in Pella (post to come soon on a full wedding photo extravaganza on this wedding!) Capturing the get away car in action

Setup for a Jamie, a 2011 Senior at Martensdale St Marys a high school located just south of Norwalk about 8 miles this past fall.

Jamie had these sweet ever loved Converse tennis shoes. Tanner getting a few shots of them while she was switching outfits.

End of a senior session

Engagement photos this fall at Simpson College this past fall for Lauren and Bill

Ikonix East Village studio on the left. Checking it out for a shoot and getting the light right for a senior shoot in East Village this summer.

iMac in hand in the back seat headed to a wedding reception in October for Kelsi and Todd at the Ramada Inn. We often tote around one of our 27″ iMacs for and put together a same day slide-show at the reception as a surprise for our couples.

I believe I was shooting a super sweet video of the dancing entrance this past May at a wedding

Sometimes we do this….and it cracks me up. Not the first time. What is nice about having two photographers at weddings is that all our angles are definitely covered!

Sparklers are always fun. Attempting to get setup for senior session with Jaz and Bailey from Forest City. We used sparklers with this July and got some fun photos.

E-Session for Nick & Sarah this last June in Des Moines

Jason & Kristin’s e-pic session in Pella this past spring & Trevor and Whitney’s wedding reception from July in Mason City

Jen & Chad’s e-pic session in Storm Lake

Hello to the debut of the 70-200L at weddings! Our very first wedding shot with it.

Modeling session with Jess and setting up some fun lighting at a wedding reception this last July at the Blank Park Zoo. Tanner has some serious game at fun wedding reception dance lighting.

Tom & Tanner snapping modeling photos of Jess this last spring at Ikonix downtown studio.

Just getting the light right at a Senior session this fall

Jen and Chad’s e-session in Storm Lake it started raining/pouring at the end…obviously that just means to pull out an umbrella and get some awesome rain action shots!

Shooting a football game this fall at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. We rented a 300mm f/2.8L IS USM for the game and a Canon MK IV from CPS!

Tanner enjoying the ladies at a wedding reception

Outtakes from waiting for clients from a senior session

Thanks Tanner for this. No idea what is going on here…I just remember it was hot, we walked far, big wedding party, and obviously I was making faces at him. And make sure to check out the groomsman was giving me a great look. 7 months later I find it amusing. Kind of!

HOT! Weddings are hot in Iowa. End of one of our first weddings of 2010. Phew I think we needed a shower!

We have tons more so maybe another fun blog post as we get through more albums from behind the scenes. Happy Thrusday all!

M + R Engaged | Des Moines Engagement Photographers

If your viewing this on Facebook head on over to our blog at https://www.ztsblog.com for the full post!

Sunday we headed down to the Fitch Building for our first e-session of the year! The Catchlight Studio we shot in is primarily used for commercial photography work here in Des Moines and beyond.

They have a great open light studio in addition to a kitchen that you have probably seen if you have ever flipped through the pages of a magazine produced by Meredith Publishing. The studio has such flavor with edgy antique brick and some hip new additions as well.

These two were so great to work with and their laughter really shines through in these images. We are excited that they are our first wedding in April 2011 to kick off the year!

Check it out! 365 A Portrait a Day Project

If your viewing this on Facebook head on over to our blog at https://www.ztsblog.com

A fellow Des Moines photographer Tom Woolery who runs IKONIX Studio is doing a pretty sweet 365 portrait a day project that Tanner and I have both been a part of in the last few weeks. Such a sweet idea Tom!

Make sure to follow his work as I am sure most of you Des Moines locals will enjoy seeing familiar faces and even possibly being part of it yourself! Head on over and fan Ikonix Studio on Facebook too as they are a great resource in helping local photographers with workshops from work-flow to lighting as well as the ability to rent out their awesome studio space to shoot in.

Thanks for letting us be part of your awesome project!
